The Young Filipino Americans of Pittsburgh (YFAP) puts together the Benefit Concert to raise funds and showcase the FAAP Dance Troupe and talented members. The past two events were held to coincide with Mother's day in honor of all FAAP mothers but this upcoming concert will be held in June to commemorate the 109th Philippine Independence Day (June 12) and to celebrate FAAP's 50th anniversary.
The FAAP Dance Troupe will open the 2-hour program featuring the Folklorico Filipino Canada Dance Troupe in a 100-minute performance of Philippine folk dances, accompanied by live Philippine instrumental music.

About Folklorico Filipino Canada
Folklorico Filipino Canada, the Philippine folk dance company based in Toronto, Canada has been entertaining local and international audiences for 31 years. In 1973, a group of young, newly-arrived Filipino immigrants met and soon began to socialize with Filipinos living in Toronto. From this small social club came the desire to form a dance group, showcase the cultures and traditions of the Filipinos. The innovative style of Folklorico Filipino, modernizing the folk dances of the Philippine cultures, has made them distinct and recognized worldwide. The dance company was formally reorganized in 1993, focusing on the restructuring and redefining the mission statement. The company's task is to research and preserve indigenous Philippine art forms in music, dance, costumes and folklore; and to promote international goodwill through performances at home and abroad.
Barely a year old after the reorganization, but eminently backed up by painstaking rehearsals and innovative choreography, Folklorico made its highly successful international debut in Poland and Ukraine in 1994, launching the company on the international stage representing the Philippines. This breakthrough was followed by other successful festivals in France, Spain, Mexico, Estonia, Portugal, Italy and Bulgaria; a major advancement in the Philippine dance history. And henceforth, the world became a stage for Folklorico.
Today, Folklorico is still as vibrant as it was at its inception. A multi-awarded company, both nationally and internationally, Folklorico has awakened a new pride among Filipinos in their cultural heritage; added a new dimension to the country's dance tradition; and has built a rich reserve of international goodwill.
