The FAAP celebrates Pasko with an annual Christmas Party in early December. At this gathering, we aim to pass on and perpetuate Filipino Christmas traditions to our children. These include the Mano po Lolo at Lola, Mano po Ninong at Ninang, the display of parol (star lantern), caroling with the cumbancheros (strolling minstrels), and the Simbang Gabi (Midnight Mass). Traditional Filipino Christmas food such as suman, bibingka, pan de sal, salabat, hamon, queso de bola, kastanyas, and lechon are served as we simulate the Noche Buena, the lavish meal after the midnight Mass. However, the giving of aguinaldo or gifts to the children has been delegated to Santa Claus, the adopted American tradition, instead of the usual elders.
The spirit of giving is encouraged at the Christmas Party through a Food Drive. Canned goods or other non-perishable items, or an alternate cash donation, are collected for a designated shelter, food pantry or soup kitchen.
