2007 YFAP Naga Mission 02.19.2007

In response to an invitation by the Archdiocesan Office for Mission of the Archdiocese of Caceres in Naga City, Camarines Sur, Philippines, the Young Filipino Americans of Pittsburgh (YFAP) is planning to conduct a series of community services for the following poor urban parishes in Naga City and surrounding communities.

  • Barangay Cararayan, Naga City, Parish of Mater Salutis
  • Barangay Abella, Naga City, Parish of St. Lorenzo Ruiz
  • Barangay Tabuco, Naga City, Parish of Holy Cross
  • Municipality of Gainza, Parish of St. Dominic of Guzman

The goal of the mission is to help the children living within the parishes appreciate personal hygiene and oral care, thus, learning the value of personal stewardship and health. The mission will also provide opportunity for the YFAP participants to experience firsthand the situation of children and families in some of the poorest communities1 in the Philippines.

The Archdiocesan Office for Mission shall assist our YFAP mission group. Tentative schedule is June 14, 2007, which marks the end of school year (start of summer vacation) here in Pittsburgh and also coincides with the start of the school year in the Philippines.

We can only accommodate no more than 25 volunteers for this mission. For more information, please contact Raul Evangelista at 2007Naga@thefaap.org

1 Camarines Sur is ranked as the 4th poorest province in Region 5 (Bicol), which is the 2nd poorest region in the Philippines according to the 2000 statistics reported by the National Statistics Coordination Board of the Philippines.
