Periodic Events and Fund-Raising Campaigns

Christmas Cards

Greeting cards with color reproductions of Philippine Christmas scenes by famous Filipino painters continue to be sold by the dozens to raise funds for the PNR. These folded cards are blank on the insides and may be used for all seasons and occasions. This project started in the fall of 2006 and will continue until all cards are sold.

Cooking with the Filipinos of Pittsburgh, PA

The 3rd edition (2003) of this cookbook was an exclusive PNR fund-raiser. The upcoming Golden Anniversary Edition will be likewise.

Entertainment Books

The sale of these books raised substantial funds for the PNR. This project started in 2002 and continued yearly until 2006.

Film Fest

The 1st Film Fests in 2003 raised funds for several causes, with the PNR getting the bulk of the proceeds. It was held at The Oaks Theater in Oakmont, PA.

Golf Outing

The FAAP's 5th Golf Outing in 2002 raised money solely for the PNR. The next two events were co-sponsored with the Philippine American Medical Society of Western PA (PAMS) and the proceeds were divided equally between the PNR and the PAMS' medical missions.

Induction Ball

Proceeds from FAAP Induction Balls have been directed to the PNR in 2001 ("Pistahan"), in 2002 ("Casino Filipino"), and in 2006 ("Celebrating 50 Years"). In honor of the FAAP's Golden Anniversary, the proposed concept for the Philippine Nationality Room was unveiled at the 2006 Induction Ball and much effort was directed at maximizing fund-raising for the PNR at this event. A member's challenge to match out-right donations to the PNR by attendees that evening, along with the generous gifts from past FAAP and YFAP presidents, plus program book ads, sponsorships, and various other donations, brought in an unprecedented total raised funds from an Induction Ball.

Nationality Rooms Holiday Open House

This annual event at the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning brings in additional funds to the PNR in the form of a percentage of the profit from sales at the Filipino food stall.

Pittsburgh Folk Festival

This annual three-day event held on the Memorial Day weekend raised funds for the PNR in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Ripa Raffle

The Malaking Ripa (Big Raffle), an elimination raffle held as a part of an Induction Ball, proved to be a "cash cow" for raising substantial funds for the FAAP’s charitable activities. The third such raffle held in 2005 raised funds solely for the PNR. A similar, but smaller raffle was held at the Christmas Party of 2003 for the benefit of the PNR.

Volley Ball Tournament

The first volleyball tournament was held at the 2001 Annual Picnic and has continued to the present, raising almost $10,000 to date from team sponsorship fees.

Friends and Family: a Dollar Adds Up

This YFAP's concept of spreading the news and their support for the construction of the PNR attracted attention nationwide. A mere dollar or loose change solicited from family, relatives, friends, classmates, and acquaintances generated a more common response of $10, up to a maximum of $100. The youth were instructed to bring solicitation forms wherever they traveled away from Pittsburgh, or to call relatives and friends across the country to solicit their cents and dollars.
