Annual Pittsburgh Folk Festival 02.21.2007

The Pittsburgh Folk Festival is a multicultural celebration held every Memorial Day weekend, lately at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. It features over 25 nationalities highlighting their traditional ethnic entertainment, crafts, food and refreshments. One can shop in the international bazaar, learn a dance, see traditional crafts or visit the cultural exhibits to learn more about a country and its people.

The FAAP, then the Samahang Pilipino ng Pittsburgh (SPNP), first participated in the Folk Festival in1964 and has kept this commitment unbroken to this day. It has participated in the three facets required of member groups: performing ethnic dances, displaying a cultural exhibit and/or a bazaar, and cooking ethnic foods for sale. The FAAP Dance Troupe starts preparing its program of folk dances for this festival as early as January every year. Our cultural display varies with the chosen theme for the year. Our food booth is famous for its Fried Chicken Adobo, Pancit, and Cantaloupe Drink.
