The three editions of "Cooking with the Filipinos of Pittsburgh, PA" enjoyed much success as a fund-raiser for the FAAP, and served as an "ambassador of goodwill" from Pittsburgh. To date, the 3rd edition is sold out but orders continue to stream in from all over the USA and Canada. Clearly, there is a demand to produce another edition and what better time than now, as the FAAP celebrates its 50th anniversary. The new edition will aptly be titled: "The Golden Years: Cooking with the Filipinos of Pittsburgh, PA".
The First Edition (Red Book) contained 300 recipes. The Second Revised Edition, (Blue Book) had 450 recipes. The Third Revised and Enlarged Edition (Yellow Book) had close to 650 recipes. All three editions are divided into 2 main sections: "Favorite Recipes", demonstrating the Filipinos' eclectic taste and preferences, and "Native Filipino Recipes", reflecting our diverse heritage and cooking practices. This 3rd Edition's vast collection of native recipes is, in our opinion, superior to any other collection compiled for use in North America.
The forthcoming edition will be a souvenir of our Golden Anniversary celebrations. It is designed to be a memorial and a celebration of life with the Filipinos of Pittsburgh. The best recipes from the past editions will be included, and additional equally worthy ones will be solicited from the current membership. Highlights of this cookbook will be beloved family recipes and traditions, accompanied by photographs, all preserved as a legacy for future generations.
The Golden Years Cookbook will be presented as a two-volume set: a hard cover coffee table book containing photos which tie in with a submitted recipe or family tradition, and a spiral-bound book of kitchen-tested recipes only, for everyday use.
We invite and encourage you to participate in this important project. Please contact Cookbook Editor Antoinette Angeles (412-373-3239) or Cookbook Fund-raising Chair Tina Purpura (412-344-6041) for more information on how to be included in this book.
